PRIZES

  • First Place: $1,000 and Trophy

  • Second Place: $500 and Trophy

  • People’s Choice: $250 and Trophy

Eligibility

  • This contest is open to amateurs only.

  • Professional chefs are not eligible to compete.


Entry Information

  • Entry Fee: $25.00 per contestant

  • Final Entry Deadline: Monday, August 3, 2026

  • Due to space limitations, participation is limited to 20 contestants.

  • Each contestant will be assigned a 10x10 cooking space.

  • You will be officially entered once your entry fee is received.

  • Location assignments are made in the order entry fees are received.


Setup & Arrival

  • Contestants may begin setup between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM on the morning of the competition.

  • All cookers must be fully set up by 8:00 AM on Saturday, October 17, 2026.

  • Please drive in, unload your items, move your vehicle to designated parking, and then complete setup.

  • The festival and the City of Loris are not responsible for personal belongings.


Food Preparation Rules

  • The only ingredient permitted to be prepared prior to arrival is the chicken.

  • Each contestant must cook a minimum of 20 quarts of chicken bog to ensure adequate sampling for the People’s Choice Award.


People’s Choice Sampling

  • Sample cups will be provided the morning of the contest.

  • Do not use your own sample cups.

  • A festival coordinator will be present in the cooking area at all times to assist with questions.

  • Once People’s Choice sampling concludes:

    • Any remaining chicken bog must be taken home.

    • Chicken bog may not be sold or given away under any circumstances.

  • New signage will be posted in the cooking area outlining all People’s Choice rules.


Health & Safety Requirements

  • Contestants must supply all ingredients, cooking equipment, and required health department items, including but not limited to:

    • Hand-washing station

    • Tent

  • Contestants must comply with all applicable health department rules and regulations.

  • Please ensure you receive a copy of these regulations with your application.


Fire Safety

  • Any cooking device with an open flame must be used outside of the tent, unless the tent is clearly labeled fire-retardant.


Judging

  • Judging will begin promptly at 12:00 noon.

  • Contest officials will collect sufficient samples from each booth and transport them to the judging area.

  • Once samples are collected, contestants may begin serving People’s Choice samples to the public.

Judging Criteria

  1. Flavor of ingredients

  2. Appearance and aroma

  3. Texture of the chicken bog


Additional Rules

  • Decorations are not required.

  • If decorating, please do not use flammable materials.

  • No animals are allowed in the cooking contest area.

    • Service animals only.

  • Giving away chicken bog, other than official People’s Choice samples, will result in immediate disqualification.

  • NO SOLICITATION OF ANY KIND is permitted in the cooking contest area.
